Facing plastic pollution in the Caribbean Sea
The Parley Global Cleanup Network works to protect marine environments from plastic pollution and other threats. Through collaborative cleanups with local businesses and organisations, our teams intercept plastic waste from beaches, remote islands, rivers, mangroves and coastal communities. With cleanups in 30 countries so far and counting, the Network also works on local education, awareness campaigns and government engagement to drive change.
Each country team shares our vision for healthier oceans globally, and works locally to champion the Parley AIR Strategy in their nation. As of 2021, Parley has worked with over 750 collaborators, engaged over 260,000 volunteers and conducted more than 4500 cleanups worldwide.
Together with local partners and stakeholders, Parley is working on a long-term plan for the Dominican Republic. As part of the Parley AIR strategy, we are organizing ongoing clean-ups, implementing education initiatives, and tracking the waste to its source in order to develop waste management strategies.
“Beyond raising awareness about conservation of marine ecosystems and avoiding plastic pollution, I see Parley’s role in the DR as a reminder that the only way to address these massive issues is by encouraging participation of both present and future generations in spaces that integrate creativity, innovation, and the love for the environment in a way that converges what is wondrous about our ideas.”

Players for the Planet
Players from the New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics training academies in the Dominican Republic took a stand against plastic pollution.
Emergency Response
The July 2018 plastic crisis at Montesinos Beach prompted an emergency response from Parley and the government, who worked together to rapidly mobilize a cleanup. Garbage emergencies like this are urgent reminders that we need to reduce plastic at its source. Unless urgent action is taken, scenes like this will become more common all over the world.
SnotBot Bahía Samana 2019
Our most successful SnotBot expedition to date, with 80 adult whales sampled, and one whale calf.
