“Surfers see what others do not.”

– Dr. Sylvia Earle

We were honored to partner with leaders from the enviro-surf community as co-sponsors of the 2015 Global Wave Conference, an international event hosted by Surfers Against Sewage to advance recognition of the value of waves and their protection around the world. The fourth annual conference was held October 11-14, at the Bedruthan Steps Hotel in Cornwall, England, with a concluding day at the Houses of Parliament in London.

At the event, enviro-surf NGOs, academics, oceanographers, environmentalists, activists, surfers, politicians, and community members gathered for discussions on how we can boost eco innovation and stewardship to safeguard waves, oceans, beaches and surf habitats from the threats of human-driven climate change and marine pollution.

Keynote sessions were as humbling and motivating as they were informative, highlighting universally relevant and imperative truths that resonate with the surf community and far beyond. Speakers included several Parley collaborators and professional surfers Greg Long and Tom Curren, who received the 2015 Global Wave Champion Award presented at the House of Commons on the final day of the conference.

On Tuesday, October 13, the Parley team announced the Parley Surf Coalition, an initiative of our Ocean Plastic Program in collaboration with Surfers Against Sewage and Surfrider Foundation that aims to mobilize the global surf community behind ocean activism and anti-plastic pollution campaigns.
